  • Todaiji Temple

    Todaiji Temple

    <World Heritage> Founded in the middle of the 8th century. The spacious precincts is dotted with Buddhist statures and buildings and structures of national treasures. Inside Daibutsu-den (Hall of the Great Buddha), one of the largest wooden structures in the world, is the 15m-high Great Buddha Vairocana, or commonly known as the “Great Buddha in Nara.”

  • Kasuga Taisha Shrine

    Kasuga Taisha Shrine

    <World Heritage> Founded in 768. Located on the foot of Kasugayama Primeval Forest (a Special Natural Monument), it creates an awe-inspiring atmosphere complemented by the surrounding landscape. Surrounded by greenish scenery, the vividly vermilion‐lacquered Shinto shrine looms in an impressive manner. The site is also famous for its beautiful wisteria flowers.

    Kofukuji Temple

    <World Heritage> Founded in 710. It hosts Gojunoto (the Five-Storied Pagoda) and numerous other masterpiece structures. Kokuhokan (national treasures museum) hosts the statue of Ashura and an array of other masterpiece Buddhist statues. In fall 2018, Chukon-do Hall celebrated the completion of its construction for the first time in 300 years.

    <World Heritage> Founded in 607. Daijin, noted for its connection with Shotoku Taishi. Sai-in Garan West Precinct is dotted with the world’s oldest existing wooden architectures, the Kondo (main hall) and Gojunoto. The first World Heritage site in Japan.

    Nakatanido

    A shop where tourists can enjoy tasting freshly-cooked Yomogimochi (mugwort rice cake). Famous for its performance of “high-speed mochi pounding,” a method of mochi making in which rice is pounded immediately while still hot. The mochi pounding process is so vibrant that tourists cannot help smiling.
